What is the Ethics Bowl?
The SAA Ethics Bowl is a team competition in which undergraduate and graduate students debate real-world ethical dilemmas in archaeology before a panel of judges. Organized by the SAA Committee on Ethics and held at the Society for American Archaeology's Annual Meeting, it has been supported since 2004 by SAA, the Register of Professional Archaeologists (RPA), and the Archaeological Institute of America (AIA).
Teams of three to five students and a faculty mentor wrestle with repatriation, looting, data stewardship, community consent and more. Ethics Bowl Academy is an independent student support resource that helps you prepare — see the official SAA Ethics Bowl page for rules and registration.
